Swim pool lessons

This city has two pools.:  One outside &one inside.   I’ve only utilized the facilities 3 time.  Part of it is that sometimes they are getting cleaned, other times have other things to do like eat or go places ,and of course I’m not a big swim person.
So Catherine wanted to come one time and I was like sure come on. Turns out she needed a suit and the indoor place makes you wear the hair cap. The place didn’t really like my board shorts style swim wear, even though it had the underwear netting stuff.

They want you to wear this snug boxer brief style suits.   Curt and I were taking about going once and he was doing he wears a pair of shorts to the pool then takes them off to swim.  I was very confused to his Modesty until I realized, Oh he wears the snug type.. ..yeah I wouldn’t walk several blocks in that either.
Back to the original story.   Catherine informed me.. I can’t swim.  Uh alright I guess just stay in the shallow kid area… oh wait this is an Olympic size pool so it’s for laps and wading and kids wear flotation devices.  And she is short so her mouth is underwater if she stands.
Alright,  I had just talked to my sister in law about the girls swim lessons, in thinking maybe I can help her. Bear in mind I never did this before.

Show her how to blow water out her noise and mouth, tried to get her to feel comfortable underwater, how to kick with legs less bent while holding onto a rail, and finally how to put a round floaty under her belly and balance and kick.

She finally got the hang of that.. .at least swimming face to the water,  on her back was not so smooth.  She kept putting her legs up and tipping sideways and over.  Oh well not bad… and the second time we went she still did good.

Also I had to catch her arm like a kid when she went under water because she couldn’t touch, couldn’t find floaty quick enough, and had trouble popping out the water.   Dog paddle hasn’t been learned yet.   O

verall she is making strides and is cool enough to let me do a lap or two between helping.

  1. This is awesome. I had seen the picture before of you and Catherine with a caption stating you had helped teach her to swim a little…fun to have the whole story. I remember swimming lessons. Not easy, but also had a “shallow end” of the pool to learn. Good for her!
