Autumn festival or moon festival. Either name you call it the moon pies are delicious. They are filled with pork lard and different types of ingredients. You can have pork, beef, Rose, grape, blueberries, bananas, and other flavors.. these are in a pastry crust in the shape of a full moon. It is a time to spend with families at night and you stare at the full moon during this time.
I went to Mr Lee house the CEO of the hospital and he apparently had-50 percent alcohol. So we had pomegranate, peanuts, pears ,apples ,and cherriesas appetizers.
Mr Lee was kind enough to let me lay on his massage chair complete with calf and arms pieces.. it was pneumatic.
The meal was very good and probably about 15 different dishes. We had the customary chit chat and then they were flattering each other with big toasts and then talking a little bit about business.
I even managed to give a toast about how if your trying to grow a business it’s important to surround yourself with successful people even if it’s in a different field. 1 kid was in medical school or maybe starting medical school and Mr Lee was giving him all this advice about how it’s not about just making money its about helping the community and beans the best you can be and then he was expected to give a toast but he took about 10 minutes to figure out what he wanted to say. Then we went to Kvt.
You know I’m not sure if Americans would like it, but it sure is fun to be in your own private room with a little food a little drink and be able to karaoke without being in front of people you don’t know . Plus you get to watch music videos while singing and dancing.
The following night I was able to hang out with Katherine and enjoy watching the moon with her and even a moon pie. I drove her on my bicycle to a nearby park so you can see the stars. While there she explain to me what the Moon Festival is all about. So now is that story.
Very long time ago there was a man that was very good at hunting with an arrow. And he also had a very lovely wife. Somehow he was given the opportunity to drink this solution and have immortality. But he was so in love with his wife that he decided to not drink it.
And for some reason the earth had 10 moon and he decided to hunt and kill or destroy the other nine moons. Which he successfully did. Well his wife had other plans.
She decided she would like to have the immortality so she went ahead and drank the solution instead. And now she is in the moon.
And so the Chinese look at the moon and think of her but really they think of him and how much love he had for her and how much they don’t quite like the lady for doing that.
Like I said it’s a holiday about friends family and love.
On a side note, the first week I was here they celebrated their own Valentine’s Day. Stay tuned in the next following week I should have a blog about my vacation to a lake.
