Part Er of Yuxi Trip
I’m dropped off on the street by the bus station. Luckily I know that down the street somewhere is the office of John Bo my contact of how I got to china in the first place.
At this point the noodles are wearing off and I get a pear. Luckily I brought my knife just for this occasion. If I hadn’t wrote this yet.. You can’t eat the skin of fruit, they say it’ll get you sick, so you peel it. Which is to bad because except for fiber the skin is the nutritious part of fruit.
I find his office (from remembering the area from only being there once on my first day.) Now I can’t remember the floor so I climb the stairs and poke my head in the hall to see if I can remember it. NOPE, I call Curt and 7th floor it is.
John Bo shows me the bus station by the office that goes to kunming and the other bus goes to YuanJiang. Thanks dude. Then he says hey I know of a place for 20 rmb that is all you can eat. Well we are walking and walking and he gets lost.
We go eat at Dico’s, a UK fast food chain of chicken. A nice treat. We talked about work and he told me which bus to take to check out walmart. I just had to see a China walmart. I
noticed that it didn’t seem but like 3 miles to walk back. So, I explore a lot of Yuxi and make myself a map of the area and went to a block size park. Got to see old people playing musical instruments in a group. Beautiful water and statues and trees. Even got a fresh mango drink.
Explored one of the main streets for shopping there on my way back. Fast forward to dinner…we found the all you can eat and it was on that same shopping road… just much further down. In fact where I turned left is where the street is just soso and turn right is where it gets to the nicer stores. He also helped me figure out how to get wifi and a new phone (although we didn’t do it in Yuxi because I didn’t know my address).
Well, I also went back to Hongta Shan Park. Looked at all the statues and really explored the non beaten path there. SO beautiful and found the college inadvertently that Duan attended.
Saw a gorgeous pond and that was reinforced by the fact that about 4 bride and grooms were taking photos there.
Then I went across the street where the huge cigarette factory Hongta is. They like the place because it employs a lot of people and make excellent cigs. But there is a six mile loop around that area and I did maybe a mile of it.
I was able to navigate the bus station alone… first counter to buy ticket was wrong. And when I was asking which number is the bus at.. A person behind said follow me and its not by number really .. The city is on a sign in front of the bus in characters. Lesson learned there.. If you going to travel you better get the characters. But all went well, I made it home safe and had a good time. A little stressful trying to learn the city but good times.
In fact next week is Autumn Festival and pretty much there is a carnival I think and families stare at the full moon and eat tasty moon cakes (pastry stuff). Had my first one today.
Mmmmm…moon cakes. Do you know what your moon cake was filled with? I like the lotus seed paste. 😀 Tasty goodness.
i ate one that was in a blue wrapper and then one that probably was bananan since that was the pic on it 🙂
