Let’s start with the fight. Now, I forgot to write this story on the original Kunming post but whatever, you get it now.
On the evening of Stone Forest, we met up to get a bite to eat and then headed to KTV…which was so fun. All english songs, people enjoyed themselves, had a range from old school 80’s to the latest Timberlake and Guetta songs.
But back to the fight.
Dinner was street chosen BBQ and eating it inside a restaurant in a back room. We were finishing up some grilled eggplant and we hear a commotion. Some screaming and a bottle breaking gets our attention.
Two of our friends had just left to pay a bill and 3 of us remained when it all went down. We sprung from our seats to peak at the clatter and that’s when we saw it. This guy flew from his table and started fist punching this lady right in the face. I mean laying into her face and blood was flying on the wall and down her nose and his knuckles. Then a couple of others at his table started pulling him off her, but it was difficult for them. And a whole bunch of ‘loud words’ were spoken and two others started getting in his face.
I can only hope things like ‘Hey Dude you can bunch out a girl like that’ were said. Apparently he was upset because that girl threw a bottle at him. Either way when the 3 guys were wrestling on the floor, the 3 of us managed to sneak by them but not before the police blocked the main entrance where our other 2 people were.
One of the waiters showed us the back exit through the kitchen and off we were hyped up on adrenaline and carnage to sing our little lungs out at KTV.
180 degree change of topic.
A pleasant trip with Ling to Kunming.
This was the start of a 15 day 3 area vacation. (I’ve been off work for a while and that will be a post once it is all figured out and back to normal… suffice it to say, I was on vaca for 15 days).
Had a nice dinner at the newly opened and only Burger King with a buddy from America. It can be quite tasty if you never eat it, although Ling didn’t care for her swiss/mushroom burger…not the first time I have heard a local not like western fast food.
Before dinner we rode a bus for an hour and then another bus for a while and finally made it to mini-golf. Sad thing was when I first saw the place on line I tried to call but number didn’t work. When we got there it had just started a 10 day remodel job and the driving range on the same land was open… but I didn’t realize they were connected and so I was wishing I had called that number too.
Plus it was too expensive to hit golf balls so what a waste. Top if off we ended up walking like 40 minutes to find the next bus out of there. What a waste of a day… only upside is we got to see the spa area, parts of town I hadn’t been, and now I know where it is for some other time. Still no number to call for next time though.
Next day we went to the World Horti-Expo Garden from 1999. This place is huge. Here is the skinny on the Horticulture Exposition. I don’t know if this event still takes place every year but for the year 1999 it was held in this here Spring City. I will explain the layout and what the point of it all is, but I think the pictures will showcase the place best. I mean, how you describe flowers and scenery so that it is cool enough to read on a blog post.
One part of the place has a huge stage with a stream and mountain as a backdrop and there is a windmill in the back ground. Also a big statue of two fists interlocked… oh yea I totally mimicked it for a photo. There is a small raft ride but it looked real slow and lame.
There are 2 gigantic greenhouses with sweet looking plants. The rest of the place is divided into 2 main areas.
One area showcases all scenery of China and the other is split into a bunch of roughly 1100 square meter plots and showcases “the world.” Let’s start with the world. Again not sure how a country is invited to have a plot or if they pay to have for a plot. Countries like Australia, Israel, Burma, Thailand, Britain, Russia etc. each have 1100sqm and they make it represent their country. Aussie had some special bushes and grass and a building. Russia had authentic looking country homes and some sortta unique flowers. I don’t think you can bring indigenous flowers from another country just in case it grows like crazy nuisance ivy like in north carolina that grows all over everything and kills the normal vegetation. Darn you ivy.
The China part had two parts. One was a big walking natural type trail with some statues. The other was split into plots as well. This time it showcased architecture from different dynasties and different provinces. Each was unique and typically had some type of temple that was the epitome of what I just wrote. Ling was actually able to pick a few of them correctly without reading the plaque.
We walked so much and were famished so we got some found and grabbed a bus to the wildlife refuge type zoo. Once we got there it was closed too. Horrible end of the day…took us waiting 30 minutes to get the first bus, then another hour for the second bus which finally put us at our destination.
I was so frustrated because I was really wanting to visit with the american doctor and because of all the delay and traffic and lack of calling to make sure zoo was open… I didn’t get to catch up. People who know me realize that I like to spend time with people.
Sure I spend a ton of time with Ling, and its good, but I also crave other interaction but I don’t much of it based on where I live. Luckily, I am able to call some people in the states, but it’s still a good idea for in person convo as well. Maybe I should WeChat/Skype/ video call more too.
Well after that day a good night sleep was in order. Woke up and went to this GIGANTIC 6 story 4 block long mall. It is set up as a wholesale type of place. If I owned a clothing store in a smaller town, I would come here, go shop all over and decide what pieces I want and typically buy in bulk for a discount. Take the clothes to my store and resell them. But if I were to just go and buy one piece, well I could I just don’t get as sweet of a deal as a shop owner. Spent a couple hours there and then leaving on a jet plane to Beijing.
