My contract ends in August but my visa to stay here ends first week of July. There was an option to just extend the visa locally for 3 or 4 months but they couldn’t figure out that option.
We were left with 2 options. Option 1 is to end the contract at the end of June. Option 2 is to pay for me to return to USA and get a new visa so I can finish out the contract…roughly six weeks. Easy choice… option 1.
However because of some drama he decided to end the contract first week of June. I did get paid everything I was supposed to and that was a surprise to the local docs…not uncommon to get hosed at the end apparently. I never did get paid for the days I was in USA in Jan but no other foreigner is able to either. Just let it go Justin.
The rest of June I moved to Kunming and worked at Yadong Hospital. Free meals, great fun across the street, roommates in a free apartment, more English, nice work environment and so far a great experience. Wish I moved here sooner. However, this hospital is no longer a part of the company I worked for, and the other hospital is in a dirty part of town. That means I would probably have been in the dirty part of town for June. Yuck!
One last thing… from late Feb to June I did not work but I did get paid. Yes, you read correctly. I literally did not work and got paid for 3.5 months. There were some internal/external issues that they were trying to get resolved but it took a long time for it to happen. That is when I went to Xishuangbanna, Beijing, Kunming, Thailand and then Dali and Lijiang. I read through all my old seminar files, management company files, several books, caught up on all my shows, exercised, and totally threw off my sleep/awake schedule.
There you have it the brief overview of why I am going home early…first of July instead of mid-August.
