I think everyone knows that soda (a.k.a. “pop”) is NOT very good
for you. It has a lot of unhealthy chemicals and the cheap form of
sugar; high fructose corn syrup.
But what about “diet” sodas? Those must be healthy, right?
Wrong.
Unfortunately, many people think “diet soda” is a great alternative
to regular sodas. Others think drinking diet sodas is good to do
when you’re trying to lose weight.
Wrong again.
The fact is, there is nothing healthy about drinking diet soda.
There are even studies out there that showed people who drank diet
sodas regularly actually gained weight and got fatter than those drinking
regular soda.
The University of Texas did an 8-year study. Here’s a comment from
the study’s author:
“What didn’t surprise us was that total soft drink use was linked
to overweight and obesity,” Fowler tells WebMD. “What was
surprising was when we looked at people only drinking diet soft
drinks, their risk of obesity was even higher.”
“There was a 41 percent increase in the risk of being overweight for
every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day,”
Fowler says.
Here are some reasons why this happens…
- The artificial sweeteners in diet sodas create a negative
hormone response that increases fat storage hormone production and
causes an increase in cravings for more sweets and carbohydrates. - Many people subconsciously think that drinking a diet soda
allows them to eat more calories with their meals, which actually
INCREASES their overall calorie intake.
So if you’re trying to lose weight and trying to be as healthy as
possible, stay away from the diet sodas, and instead drink
unsweetened iced tea or water with lemon in it.
Thanks and have a great day!
