How Often Should You Be Washing Your Bedsheets

I saw a pretty cool article on Yahoo the other day that I wanted to
Share with you.

The article was on how often you should be washing your bed sheets,
pillows, mattress pads, comforter, etc., to benefit your health.

Do you know how often you should be washing these things? I know I
didn’t. So here’s the scoop…

According to ehow.com and examiner.com, washing sheets weekly in
hot, 130 or more degrees water gets rid of the dead skin cells you
leave on your sheets allergy-inducing dust mites that
accumulate after a few nights’ sleep.

Now, if you or someone in your family is prone to sweating, or you
have pets sleeping with you in your bed, then you might want to
consider washing your sheets every few days to rinse out the dirt
and pet dander.

And don’t ignore your mattress pad either. It’s best to wash it
bi-weekly or monthly as well.

What about pillows? Good question. To ensure you aren’t resting
your head on a big pile of germs each night, you should wash your
pillows at least every 6 months. Just follow the manufacturer’s
instructions when washing them. You should be able to wash them in
your home washing machine.

Tip: When you are drying your pillows, throw a couple of clean tennis
balls into the dryer with the pillows. Doing this helps keep your
pillows fluffy after they’ve been washed and dried.

Next are comforters, bedspreads, and blankets. Your comforter or
bedspread should be washed monthly. Again, make sure you read the
label so you know how to wash properly. Blankets should be washed
or dry cleaned monthly.

The last item is towels. Wash your bath towels weekly, and smaller
hand towels that get used more frequently more often than weekly.

I hope this has been helpful for you. I know it was for me!

Take care and I’ll talk to you soon,

Dr. Justin Trosclair
